Multilink provides free high-speed Internet connectivity to Haiti Rewired’s Media Center and Hotel Oloffson in Port-au-Prince

Port-au-Prince, June 29, 2010 – Haiti-based Internet Service Provider Multilink will provide free high-speed internet access to the Haiti Rewired community Media Center at the Hotel Oloffson in Port-au-Prince. The Media Center will have a dedicated 1Mbps WiMax hot spot, a much-needed reliable Internet connection for Haiti Rewired bloggers and journalists as well as Hotel Oloffson’s staff and guests.

Created by the people of Wired.com soon after the earthquake, Haiti Rewired is a collaborative online community focused on aggregating technology and infrastructure solutions as the country plans its future. With more than 1,300 members comprised of experts and interested parties of all disciplines, the community has already shared thousands of blogs, images and comments about a wide range of topics, from technologies and communication to infrastructure and agriculture.

“The Haiti Rewired community and its members have achieved powerful results that represent what an active online community is capable of,” said Evan Hansen, Editor in Chief of Wired.com. “The new internet connection and media center ensure Haiti Rewired members in Port-au-Prince have a secure place to post content and share ideas. Multilink is one of the benefactors who helped Wired.com see this project through to completion. Others include Richard Morse, owner of the Hotel Oloffson, who provided the room for the Media Center, and Conde Nast who generously donated computers.

Ce Centre des médias sera desservi par un point d’accès sans fil WiMax exclusif de 1 Mbps, lequel procurera une connexion Internet fiable autant aux blogueurs et journalistes d’Haiti Rewired qu’aux employés et clients de l’Hôtel Oloffson.

Créée par les gens de Wired.com peu après le tremblement de terre, Haiti Rewired est une communauté Internet collaborative qui se concentre sur la recherche de solutions de technologie et d’infrastructure pour Haïti, alors que le pays planifie son avenir.
